Abstract
The aim of this article is to develop different hypothetical scenarios about the future of the taxi sector following the emergence of digital platforms capable of disrupting the existing economic, social and regulatory ecosystem in the sector. To do so, we rely on the theoretical model developed by Bodrožić and Alder (2022) which, based on a macro-Schumpeterian approach, allows us to analyse different trajectories of technological change mediated by various forms of interaction between the political-regulatory sphere and the organizational sphere. The originality of the article lies in the pioneering application of this analytical model to investigate possible future trajectories of a sector exposed to changes related to the process of platformization of the economy. The article also aims to provide insights to support policy planning oriented towards promoting a socially and environmentally sustainable evolution of the sector.
